From 6th May to 14th May, 1917, the 21st Middlesex battalion of 121 Brigade, 40th Division, were in the front line near Havrincourt Wood, to the south of Cambrai. The Battalion Diary did not record much about this period in the trenches and makes no mention of any casualties, but it is likely that this was when James Payne, who died from wounds on 15th May, was wounded. |
